Track & Field: Blizzard Buster Recap
OXFORD, Ohio - Indiana University East began the outdoor track and field season as the Red Wolves competed in the Blizzard Buster at Miami University on Friday, March 17.
The Red Wolves had three athletes place in the top eight as individuals in two events at the George L. Rider Track.
Ty'Shaun Williams, Rex Kirchenstien and Kyler Shultz led the way for the men's team.
Williams was third in the shot put with a throw of 14.70 meters and fourth in the discus with a distance of 45.40 meters.
Kirchenstien had a pair of fifth-place finishes in the high jump (1.7 meters) and in the javelin (37.97 meters).
Shultz finished sixth in the javelin (37.84 meters) and eighth in the shot put (12.75 meters).
Others to finish in the top eight were Vanessa Temple (pole vault, first, 2.60 meters, only person to clear a height); Tristan Thomas (long jump, sixth, 5.81 meters); Rikki Phenis (javelin, seventh, 25.79 meters); Mimi Perkins (high jump, seventh, 1.35 meters); Reanna Stinson (high jump, eighth, 1.35 meters).
IU East's team of Alex Bertsch, Kirchenstien, Caleb Carter and Thomas was fourth in the men's 400-meter relay with a time of 45.66 seconds.
Next up for the Red Wolves is a trip to Kentucky for the Margaret Simmons Invitational at Murray State University on March 24-25.
