Track & Field: Margaret Simmons Invitational Day 1 Recap

MURRAY, Ky. - Three athletes from the Indiana University East outdoor track and field teams competed on the opening day of the Margaret Simmons Invitational at Murray State University on March 24.

Changes in the schedule because weather issues led to only multi-event performers taking part in the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon on the first day.

Rex Kirchenstien leads the decathlon at the halfway point with victories in the 100 meters, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. Caleb Carter is in second with a win in the long jump.

Vanessa Temple is in ninth after four of the seven events in the heptathlon.

Day two of the Margaret Simmons Invitational on Saturday begins with the remaining events of the heptathlon at 9 a.m., while the decathlon is at 10:30 a.m.

The field events start at 11 a.m. The women's 3,000-meter steeplechase is the first race on the track at noon.
