Track & Field: Cherry Blossom Invitational Recap

ATHENS, Ohio - Ty'Shaun Williams highlighted the day for the Indiana University East track and field teams in the Cherry Blossom Invitational at Ohio University on Saturday, April 15.

Williams broke the IU East record in the shot put with a distance of 15.75 meters, which put him in second place in a field of 21 competitors. The new mark by Williams surpassed the old standard of 15.03 meters established by Tyler Hoodlebrink at the River States Conference Championships in 2017.

The NAIA "B" standard is 15.35 meters, while the "A" standard is 15.85 meters.

The second national qualifier in two days for the Red Wolves, Williams joined Rex Kirchenstien in reaching that individual goal.

Kirchenstien had a school record 5,629 points in the Decathlon, which cleared the NAIA National Qualifying Standard of 5,600 points in the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State University on Friday, April 14.

Williams added a sixth-place finish in the Discus with a toss of 46.38 meters, which is also a new school record.

Izzy King led the women's squad as she was sixth in the Javelin with a throw of 31.56 meters.

Brooke Sudhoff and Vanessa Temple were only other Red Wolves to finish in the top eight of an event as an individual. The duo tied for eighth in the pole vault with 2.75 meters.

The Red Wolves return to action at the Indiana Little State Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University on April 21-22.

Indiana Wesleyan is also the host of the NAIA National Championships on May 24-26.
