Track & Field: Little State Recap
MARION, Ind. - The Indiana University East track and field teams competed in the Little State Championships on April 20-21.
Ty'Shaun Williams and Cameron Nocton headlined the two-day event for the Red Wolves at Indiana Wesleyan University by qualifying for the NAIA National Championships.
After previously reaching the NAIA "B" Standard in the Shot Put last weekend, Williams finished fourth in the Discus on Thursday with an IU East record distance of 48.45 meters. The standard is 47.60 meters.
On Friday, Williams added a fifth-place finish in the Shot Put with a toss of 14.92 meters.
Cameron Nocton won the 5,000-Meter Walk, while establishing an IU East record of 24:41.71. The mark also surpassed the NAIA "B" Standard of 25:45.00 to qualify for the national meet. Austin Wenta finished fourth behind his teammate with a 29:34.83.
Richard Bower was fifth in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase as he broke his own school record established last week with a time of 9:52.26.
IU East had a pair of runners score in the 5,000 meters. Mylan Nocton was sixth in 15:05.96, while Tucker Burris finished seventh in 15:07.70.
On the women's side, Izzy King was eighth in the Javelin with a throw of 27.78 meters.
The Red Wolves were 12th in the men's meet and 14th in the women's event.
Next up for the Red Wolves is the River States Conference Championships at the University of Rio Grande on April 28-29.
Indiana Wesleyan is also the host of the NAIA National Championships on May 24-26.
