Outdoor Track: IU East at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Day 2 Recap

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Carson Shepherd led the Indiana University East track and field teams on day two of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Friday, March 20.

Shepherd established a new school record for the Red Wolves as he finished first in the men's open division of the pole vault clearing 4.26 meters.

The Red Wolves had several others finish in the top eight of their events at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

Vanessa Temple was fourth in the women's open pole vault at 3.20 meters.

Mylee Shatto also grabbed fourth place in the women's open 800 meters with a time of 2:29.91, while Casey Gifford followed her to take sixth running a 2:33.39.

The last individual was Samantha Fowler, who was eighth in women's 5,000 meters as she completed the distance in an IU East record time of 18:55.83.

The IU East women's 3,200-meter relay squad of Hunter Gardner, Shatto, Gifford and Lily Hart posted a time of 10:45.88 to finish in eighth place.

Saturday's finale gets underway for the Red Wolves with the men's discus at 9 a.m. The women's 3,000-meter run is the first event on the track for IU East at 10 a.m.
