Outdoor Track: IU East at RSC Championships Preview

RICHMOND, Ind. - Indiana University East's track and field teams have 15 athletes seeded in the top three as the Red Wolves take part in the River States Conference Outdoor Championships

at the University of Rio Grande on May 1-2.

Friday's action at the Stockmeister Track & Field Complex gets underway with the field events at 1 p.m. The first races on the track are at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, the field events start at 11 a.m. Track activity begins at noon.

The Red Wolves have six competitors at the top of the RSC performance list in their events.

Cameron Nocton is the defending champ in the men's 5,000-meter race walk. He has a NAIA National "A" Qualifying Standard time of 21:20.19. Already an All-American in the event, Nocton also won in 2022.

Vanessa Temple has a time of 1:04.22 in the women's 400-meter hurdles as she looks to win the title for the third straight year. Temple is third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.16 meters.

Like Temple, Kayci Hill is also seeded in two events. Hill is first in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:31.57) and third in the 1,500 meters (4:48.53).

The others with the best efforts in their events are Tristan Thomas (men's 100, 10.67), Esther George (women's 100 hurdles, 15.74) and Naleya Kenny (women's triple jump, 10.40)

The Red Wolves seeded in the No. 2 position are Mackenzie Rohde (women's 400, 58.34), Emily Fleming (women's 800, 2:16.70), Sarah Perry (women's 5,000-meter race walk, 29:54.52) and Carson Shepherd (men's pole vault, 4.10).

Connor Nease, who won the men's pole vault in 2025, is third this season at 3.97 meters. Others at No. 3 are Chloe Scales (women's 10,000, 39:35.27), Mylee Shatto (women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, 12:12.32), Emilee Earl (women's discus, 40.90) and Thomas Hogan (men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:30.57).

YOU OUGHT TO KNOW

* The top three finishers in each event earn all-conference recognition, while the top eight score.

* All three of IU East women's relay teams (400, 1,600 and 3,200) are seeded in the top spot. The men are second in the 400 and 3,200 with the Red Wolves third in the 1,600.

* During the indoor season, IU East's women won the RSC Championships as the men finished second.
