Women's Basketball: WVU Tech 69, IU East 59

BECKLEY, W.V. – Head coach Shawn Chaffin told his team that playoffs started today, ahead of their regular season finale matchup against WVU Tech.

In a win and get in game, the IU East women’s basketball team was unable to defeat the Golden Bears for the second time this season, as WVU Tech advances after a 69-59 victory.

Peyton Wells led the Red Wolves with 15 points. Maggie Anderson was next with 13. Taylor Farris had seven points and 10 rebounds, with seven assists.

After a brief 3-2 lead, the Red Wolves either trailed or were tied for most of the first half. With 23 seconds left, Wells hit one of two free throws to cut the deficit to 19-14 after the first quarter.

Wells started off the third quarter with a layup to tie the game for the first time since the first quarter at 33-33. Farris then hit a trey to give the Red Wolves their first lead since 3-2 in the first.

But that was the last lead IUE held the rest of the contest.

The Red Wolves and Golden Bears both ended with a 7-9 conference record and a 1-1 season split against each other. Both teams were 3-7 in the East division. But WVU Tech advances as the fourth seed in the East division since they defeated IU Southeast, who finished higher in the West division.
