Women's Golf: IU East at RSC Fall Preview Day 1 Recap

DANIELS, W.Va. - The Indiana University East women's golf team finished second during the opening day of the River States Conference Fall Preview on Monday, Sept. 25.

IU East has a team total of 341 at the Glade Springs Resort as the Red Wolves trail Midway University's 329.

"Cool and damp day here at Glade Springs," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "For the most part, we lost a lot of strokes to errant shots, which really surprised me with the generous fairways here. Brooklynn Cromwell and Liv Sanders did a good job holding us in there, but we got a significant deficit to overcome."

The other team scores were St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 342, Oakland City University 355, University of Rio Grande 360, IU Kokomo 369, Shawnee State University 379 and Brescia University 409.

Cromwell led IU East with an 82, which put her in seventh.

"Today was a decent day for me on a new course," Cromwell said. "It's definitely not the same type of facility as Belterra, but it's a nice course. We played in some misty colder weather for most of the day, but it stopped for a majority of the back nine."

"I managed to grab a few birdies, but the amount of double bogies with penalty strokes I had were unacceptable," Cromwell continued. "I am very pleased with my putting today and plan on taking that into tomorrow. We are sitting back by quite a few strokes but there is many places for improvement in scores and playing ability for tomorrow."

Liv Sanders carded an 83 to finish eighth.

"As a team, we need to play better tomorrow and get some lower scores in the mix," Sanders said. "This is the first time we have played competitive golf on this course. I struggled with putting."

Cromwell and Sanders were followed by Josalyn Lewis 86, Sophia Curry 90 and Katie Craig 92. Jalyn Bruns added an 87 as an individual.

IU East's tee times for the final day on the first hole are Craig 9:50 a.m.; Curry 10 a.m.; Lewis 10:10 a.m.; Sanders 10:20 a.m.; Cromwell 10:30 a.m. Lainey Jackson is playing as an individual and she starts on No. 10 at 10:20 a.m.
