Women's Golf: IU East at Heritage Hill Collegiate Day 2 Recap
SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. - The Indiana University East women's golf team finished fourth of nine teams in the Heritage Hill Collegiate on Saturday, March 28.
The Red Wolves had a team score of 334-323-321-978 as they followed Marian University (294-288-291-873), host Lawrence Tech (329-325-308-962) and the University of Northwestern Ohio (330-319-324-973).
" I really liked how our players handled the cold conditions and playing 54 holes in two days," IU East coach Billy Mullin said.
Peityn Gillman led IU East with a 79-80-75-234 as she tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard. Emma Weiler of Marian was the medalist with a score of 72-70-69-211.
"My chipping and putting really helped me keep my scores down these past two days," Gillman said. "The cold, windy conditions made it difficult to stay in a strong mentality, but I am extremely proud of the team and how we stuck it out until the last ball dropped. I'm looking forward to playing in Kokomo and hopefully having some warmer weather."
IU East's other scores were Ashlynne Osborne (83-78-81-242, 12th), Lainey Jackson (83-82-81-246, T18th), Reagan Brewer (85-84-77-246, T18th), Maddie Campbell (92-78-81-251, 23rd), Sophia Curry (87-83-170, 24th) and Jalyn Bruns (85-83-87-255, 25th).
"We battled through some tough conditions on day one, and I'm proud of how the team fought back," Osborne said. "My iron play was solid all weekend, and I was able to roll in some good putts. I was happy with how I executed my plan for the course to stay out of trouble and score. The Red Wolves are excited to be back in Indiana for our upcoming tournaments."
Next up for the Red Wolves is the IU Kokomo Spring Shootout on April 18-19.
"Peityn was excellent once again and is doing a good job of leveraging her length," Mullin said. "Lainey’s ball striking is improving, while Ashlynne and Reagan played strong in the individual spots. It's going to be an interesting spring."
