Women's Golf: Red Wolves Win Forest Hills Invitational

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's golf team improved its first round advantage on the way to winning the Forest Hills Invitational on Saturday, April 25.

The Red Wolves finished with a 338-324-662 to lead the field of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (348-330-678), IU Kokomo (357-360-717) and Earlham College (385-409-794).

Maddie Campbell was the medalist with a two-day total of 82-78-160 at the Forest Hills Country Club.

"I really struggled on the front nine and unfortunately just could not get a putt to drop," Campbell said. "But when I got to the back nine, the birdies and pars just started coming after I relaxed and was able to go nine holes with just pars and birdies."

In addition to Campbell, Sophia Curry (82-85-167, 3rd), Jalyn Bruns (92-76-168, T4th) and Lainey Jackson (85-83-168, T4th) were on the all-tournament team.

"Maddie's last nine holes with her at 3-under par is phenomenal, especially at Forest Hills," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "She is playing really good golf right now."

The other scores for the Red Wolves were Peityn Gillman (82-93-175, T8th), Reagan Brewer (92-83, T8th), Ashlynne Osborn (92-85-177, 11th) and Lauren Lacey (90-98-188, 19th).

"I can’t say enough great things about Ashlynne, Jalyn and Sophia," Mullin said. "All three have been great representatives of our program and all three were instrumental in winning this tournament. Jalyn's score of 76 was the low round of the tournament."

IU East returns to action at the River States Conference Championships in West Virginia at The Resort at Glade Springs on May 1-3.
