Women's Golf: RSC Championships Day 1 Recap
DANIELS, W. Va. - The Indiana University East women's golf team is on the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the River States Conference Championships on Sunday, May 3.
The Red Wolves posted a team score of 314 in the eight-team affair at The Resort at Glade Springs.
Midway University is second at 324, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in third at 328.
"It was a cool day and the wind kept changing, but our kids handled it very well," IU East coach Billy Mullin said.
"Sophia Curry put on a great putting display today" Mullin added. "All of our players were very good today. We have a lot of golf left, but this was a nice start."
Individually, Curry leads the field after beginning the three-day tournament with a 76.
"My putter was without a doubt the golden club today," Curry said. "It was a very fun first day of conference and I can't wait to keep competing."
Jalyn Bruns and Peityn Gillman are tied for fourth place with a score of 79. Maddie Campbell is tied for ninth at 80, while Lainey Jackson had an 81 to tie for 12th.
The tee times for Monday's second round are Jackson (11:40 a.m.), Campbell (11:50 p.m.), Gillman (noon), Bruns (12:10 p.m.) and Curry (12:20 p.m.).
