Women's Soccer: IU East 3, Rio Grande 1
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The Indiana University East women's soccer team bounced back from a road loss at WVU Tech earlier this week to post a 3-1 win at the University of Rio Grande on Saturday, Oct. 25.
With the River States Conference victory on the Evan Davis Soccer Field, IU East is 9-5-2 overall and 6-2 in the league. Rio Grande is 7-4-5, 5-2-1.
The RedStorm grabbed an early advantage with a goal at 9:57 in the opening period before IU East's Kelsey Leming tied the affair at 42:32 with an assist from Rylee Meyer.
In the second half, the Red Wolves put the game away with a pair of goals.
Katherine Lopez Cruz put IU East in front 2-1 at 49:38 as Zaryah Griffin helped on what turned out to be the game-winner. An unassisted score by Mia Runyan at 87:12 capped the win for the Red Wolves.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Sarfo-Benson recorded five saves for the Red Wolves.
IU East plays its final home match of the season at Centerville High School as the Red Wolves entertain IU Kokomo on Thursday, Oct. 30. The RSC contest begins at 6 p.m.
