Indoor Track: IU East at GVSU Recap Day 2

ALLENDALE, Mich. - For the second straight week the Indiana University East women's distance medley relay squad broke the school record.

However, the bigger news this time around is that Emily Fleming, Mackenzie Rohde, Mylee Shatto and Kayci Hill are headed to the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships next month.

The group posted an IU East record of 12:23.85, which was a NAIA "B" Qualifying Standard in the Kelly Family Sports Center during Grand Valley State University's Big Meet-Saturday on Feb. 14.

Along with the new women's DMR mark, there were five more IU East school records established as the Red Wolves competed with opponents from all NCAA divisions and the NAIA.

Emilee Earl followed up her national qualifying effort in the pole vault on Friday with new IU East records in the shot put (12.59 meters) and weight throw (14.47 meters).

The men's distance medley relay squad of Akot Tong, DeAndre Hall, Conner Walser and Hunter Allen set a new record with a 10:18.74.

Hunter Allen and Althea Clifford also added their names to the IU East record book. Allen ran a time of 4:18.61 in the men's mile, while Clifford had a 10:54.98 in the women's 3,000 meters.

With her spot on the DMR team, Hill has now qualified for two events in the national meet as she is set to compete in the 1,000 meters. Also preparing for nationals are Earl (women's pole vault), Cameron Nocton (men's racewalk) and Sarah Perry (women's racewalk). The NAIA National Indoor Championships are March 5-7 in Gainesville, Fla.

Next up for the Red Wolves is the River States Conference Indoor Championships at Marietta College on Feb 20-21.
