Red Wolves Sweep Day 2 of Taylor Invitational

UPLAND, Ind. – The IU East women's volleyball team made it a perfect 3-0 on the weekend as they defeated Trinity Christian 3-0 in the morning and Madonna University in the afternoon 3-2.

The wins give the Red Wolves a 7-5 record on the season in the three early season tournaments. They kick off conference play on Friday at Shawnee State.

Jessica Swimm led Game 1 with 13 kills on 30 attempts. The Red Wolves hitting percentage was .354. Teah Barrett Matthews tallied seven kills on 15 attempts. Loretta Pelkington also had seven kills.

The Red Wolves had to go the distance in Game 2. IUE was able to win sets one and three before setting up the fifth and deciding set.

In the fifth set, the Red Wolves were trailing 7-2, needing to reverse the momentum. Swimm tallied two kills and Pelkington added another to bring the score to 7-5 in favor of Madonna, as their coach called a timeout to stop the bleeding. Out of the timeout, the Crusaders were able to score back-to-back points that caused head coach Kim McConaha to call a timeout of her own. IUE was able to tie the score at 11-11 thanks to another kill by Swimm and two from Brooke Lepper. The Red Wolves scored eight of the last nine points to secure the win.

In the second game, Swimm led again, this time with 23 kills. Lepper was also in double digits with 13. Barrett Matthews tallied 11 kills. Reece Shirley had 46 assists and 16 digs.
