Red Wolves Dominate IUPUC for 8th Straight Win

RICHMOND, Ind. – Teah Barrett Matthews, Brooke Lepper, and Jessica Swimm all were in double-figures in kills as the IU East women's volleyball team defeated IUPUC in straight sets, 25-10, 25-20, 25-14, Tuesday night.

 

The win gives the Red Wolves a 17-6 mark on the season and 9-1 in conference play.

 

Barrett Matthews led IUE with 13 kills from 24 attempts. Lepper had 11 kills and Swimm followed with 10. Reece Shirley was named as RSC Setter on Tuesday morning and followed that with 37 assists.

 

The Red Wolves hit a .358 attacking percentage in the game and dominated the opening set.

 

IU East stormed out to an 8-0 lead that forced an early timeout from the Crimson Pride head coach. Winning 20-9, the Red Wolves finished the set out on a 5-1 run for the set win, thanks to a Tia Cooper kill.

 

The Crimson Pride took their first lead of the match in the second set as they went on a 4-1 run in the early going. They led until the Red Wolves went on a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 lead, in favor of IU East. They led the rest of the way in the set and finished it off with a kill from Lepper.

 

IUPUC held a lead in the third. The Red Wolves trailed 3-1 before going on another run, this time a 6-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. They wouldn't trail the rest of the way en route to the win.

 

The Red Wolves will travel on Saturday as they take on the Pioneers of Point Park. First serve is schedule for 12 p.m.
