Red Wolves Sweep Ohio Christian, Win 13th in a Row
CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – The IU East women's volleyball team made it 13 wins in a row as they. Defeated Ohio Christian on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21.
The Red Wolves improved to 22-6 on the season and 13-1 in conference play.
The Trailblazers led for most of Set 1. Trailing 6-4, OCU went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. They would hold that lead until a kill from Teah Barrett Matthews gave the Red Wolves a 17-16 lead. They would lead the rest of the set as Reece Shirley's kill off a pass from Jessica Swimm gave the Red Wolves a 1-0 lead.
Set 2 was much like the first. The Trailblazers started off well, taking an early 4-1 lead. The two teams traded leads for the majority of the set, all the way up until 22-22. Kills from Brooke Lepper and Barrett Matthews, though, gave IU East the set win and 2-0 advantage.
In the third, the Trailblazers followed up Sets 1 and 2. Looking to extend the game, they went on a 5-0 run to take a 6-2 lead. The Red Wolves tied the score 11-11 thanks to a service error and IU East never looked back. Barrett Matthews had a kill to take the 12-11 lead and back-to-back kills from Lepper, followed up by Barrett Matthews again, gave the IU East a 15-11 lead. They were able to close out the set for the straight-set win.
Swimm led the Red Wolves with 13 kills. Barrett Matthews followed with 12 and Emily Baker added 10. The RSC Setter of the Week, Reece Shirley, added 42 assists with two kills and 14 digs. Lepper tallied nine kills and nine digs with two total blocks.
The Red Wolves are back home on Friday as they host WVU Tech on Lingle Court. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
